# BENEFIT Setup

> Add BENEFIT credentials to 9Pic Checkout so buyers in Bahrain can pay with BENEFIT debit cards.

> [!WARNING]
>
> 9Pic Checkout is a **Beta**, **Business plan** feature. Only team admins can add or change a BENEFIT configuration.

## Overview

BENEFIT is Bahrain's debit card network. With a BENEFIT configuration, buyers are sent to BENEFIT's secure payment page and pay with a BENEFIT debit card. BENEFIT sells in **BHD** only.

You can use BENEFIT on its own, or next to [AFS Gateway](/dashboard-guide/payment-config/afs-gateway) on the same event so buyers choose between debit cards (BENEFIT) and credit cards (AFS).

You need three values from BENEFIT: a **Tranportal ID**, a **Tranportal password** and a **Terminal resource key**. The Tranportal ID identifies your terminal; the password and resource key are private and should be handled like passwords.

## Before You Start

| Requirement | Why it matters |
| - | - |
| **BENEFIT merchant terminal** | BENEFIT issues the Tranportal ID, Tranportal password and Terminal resource key for your terminal, separately for test and live. |
| **Correct environment** | Test details only work with **Test environment** on; live details only with it off. |
| **A team admin account** | Only team admins can open and manage Payment Configuration. |
| **A Business or Enterprise organisation** | Payment Configuration and 9Pic Checkout are available on the Business plan, and on Enterprise. |
| **BHD package prices** | BENEFIT accepts BHD only, so the event's packages must be priced in BHD. |

> [!WARNING]
>
> Do not share the Tranportal password or resource key in email, chat, task tickets, screenshots, frontend code, or a public repository. If you think they have been exposed, ask BENEFIT to reissue them and update the configuration in 9Pic.

## Get Your BENEFIT Credentials

**1. Find your terminal details**

Use the onboarding details BENEFIT sent for your terminal, or your BENEFIT merchant portal. You need the **Tranportal ID**, **Tranportal password** and **Terminal resource key**.

**2. Check the resource key**

The terminal resource key is 16, 24 or 32 characters long. Copy it exactly as BENEFIT shows it, with no spaces before or after.

**3. Decide whether you are testing or going live**

BENEFIT issues separate test and live details. Start with the test details; BENEFIT gives you the live details when your terminal goes live.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Need help locating the credentials? Contact the BENEFIT or acquiring bank team that set up your merchant terminal.

## Add BENEFIT to 9Pic

**1. Open Payment Config**

In the dashboard sidebar, select **Payment Config**.

**2. Start a new gateway**

In **Payment Gateway Configurations**, click **Add Gateway**, then select **BENEFIT**.

**3. Name the configuration**

Enter an optional **Label** that makes the configuration easy to recognise, such as `BENEFIT Test` or `BENEFIT Live`.

**4. Enter the Tranportal ID**

Paste the Tranportal ID into **Tranportal ID**. This field is required.

**5. Enter the password and resource key**

Paste the **Tranportal password** and the **Terminal resource key**. Both are required and are stored as protected credentials for your organisation.

**6. Choose the environment**

Leave **Test environment** on for test details. Turn it off only when you enter the live details BENEFIT issued at go-live.

**7. Create the gateway**

Click **Create Gateway**. The BENEFIT configuration appears in the organisation's gateway list.

> [!TIP]
>
> To change a credential later, open **Edit** on the configuration. Leaving the password or resource key empty keeps the saved one, so you can replace just one of them. Turn **Test environment** off in the same dialog when you switch to live details.

### What buyers see

When an event offers more than one way to pay, buyers choose from a list. In **Edit**, **What buyers see** sets this gateway's **Label buyers see** (for example "Pay with BENEFIT") and **Note** (for example "Bahrain debit cards"). Each event can change them.

## Assign BENEFIT to an Event

**1. Open the event Checkout configuration**

Open the event, then open its **Checkout** configuration.

**2. Add the BENEFIT configuration**

In the **Payment gateways** card, select **Assign** (or **Edit** if a gateway is already assigned). Choose the BENEFIT configuration, or add it under **Add another way to pay** next to an existing gateway, then select **Save gateways**.

**3. Price packages in BHD**

Create or update Checkout packages in **BHD**. When BENEFIT is on the event, BHD is the only currency the package builder offers.

**4. Publish and test**

Publish the packages and complete a test purchase with a BENEFIT test card supplied by BENEFIT before you switch to live details.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Removing a gateway while Checkout is live pauses Checkout first. Confirm the remaining gateways and package currency before you turn Checkout back on.

## Verify the Setup

| Check | What to confirm |
| - | - |
| **Correct mode** | Test details with **Test environment** on; live details with it off. |
| **Payment page opens** | A buyer can continue from 9Pic to the BENEFIT payment page. |
| **Payment completes** | A successful test payment returns to 9Pic and marks the order paid. |
| **Price is correct** | The amount on the BENEFIT page matches the package price, with three decimal places for BHD. |
| **Cancellation works** | Cancelling on the BENEFIT page returns the buyer to 9Pic without marking the order paid. |

## Troubleshooting

> **9Pic says the resource key is the wrong length.**
>
> The terminal resource key must be 16, 24 or 32 characters. Copy it again exactly as BENEFIT shows it, without spaces.

> **Buyers see "BENEFIT only accepts BHD".**
>
> The event's packages are priced in another currency. Price the packages in BHD, or offer a different gateway for that currency.

> **Buyers see "Could not start the BENEFIT payment".**
>
> BENEFIT refused the request. Check that the Tranportal ID, password and resource key belong to the same terminal and match the **Test environment** setting, then try again.

> **Test details stopped working on the live site.**
>
> Live checkout refuses a BENEFIT configuration that still has **Test environment** on. Enter the live details BENEFIT issued and turn **Test environment** off.

> **I cannot add BENEFIT to my event.**
>
> Every gateway on an event must accept the event's published package currency. Make sure published packages are priced in BHD. **No gateway** and the 9Pic test payment account can't be combined with other gateways.

## Next Steps

> **[Payment Config](/dashboard-guide/payment-config)**
>
> Manage the payment gateways saved for your organisation.

> **[Checkout Setup](/dashboard-guide/checkout/configuration)**
>
> Offer one or several gateways, publish packages, and enable Checkout.
