# Camera Configuration Guide

> Configure cameras correctly so photo order and orientation stay accurate across your event.

## Overview

Correct camera setup prevents sideways photos, broken logo placement, and timeline ordering issues.

## Universal Pre-Event Checklist

Before each event, confirm every camera has:

1. Correct date, time, and timezone
2. JPEG format enabled
3. Medium image size selected (unless organizer requested otherwise)
4. Auto-rotation set correctly for that camera brand
5. Empty or formatted memory card
6. Fully charged battery

## Core Rules

### Date and Time

* Keep time accurate to the second across all cameras.
* If multiple photographers are shooting, all devices must use the same timezone.

### Image Format

* Use `JPEG` for upload workflows.
* `RAW` files are not supported for processing.
* If organizer wants RAW capture, shoot `RAW + JPEG` but submit JPEG files for tagging.

### Image Size

* Medium size is recommended for faster transfer and processing.
* Aim for about half of each camera model's maximum resolution unless instructed otherwise.

## Auto-Rotation Setup by Camera Brand

### Canon

* Menu path: `Setup (Wrench) > Auto Rotate`
* Recommended: **On (Computer Only)**

### Nikon

* Critical setting: `Playback Menu > Auto Image Rotation = ON`
* Optional display preference: `Playback Menu > Rotate Tall = ON/OFF`

### Sony Alpha

* Menu path: `Playback Menu > Display Rotation`
* Recommended: **Auto**

### Fujifilm

* Menu path: `Set Up > Screen Set-up > AUTOROTATE PB`
* Recommended: **ON**

### Panasonic Lumix

* Menu path: `Playback Menu > Rotate Disp.`
* Recommended: **ON**

<Warning>
  On Panasonic, if this is OFF, orientation metadata is not saved.
</Warning>

### OM System / Olympus

* Menu path: `Playback Menu > Auto-Rotate`
* Recommended: **On**

### Leica

* Leica writes orientation metadata automatically.
* No separate auto-rotate setting is required.

## Video Capture Note

For Canon video workflows (`R5`, `R6`, `R10`, and similar), also enable **Add Movie Rotate Info** in video settings.

## Why This Matters

* Correct orientation metadata keeps portrait shots upright during processing.
* Accurate timestamps keep galleries in real event order.
* Better metadata means fewer manual fixes and faster delivery.
